DUNEDIN, March 24. - Captain Kidley is progressing favourably. INVERCARGILL, March 24. The wife of Donald M’Pherson, a settler of West Waiau, when taking home the cows yesterday evening was attacked by a bull and gored to death before assistance arrived. The unfortunate woman was frightfully cut about the head and neck.

An inquiry touching the death of J. Brown, aged five, son of Mr Jonathan Brown, was held, at the father’s residence. Wooden',t Road, Eangiova, yesterday afternoon, by Mr E. Beetham. Albert Bussell, in the employ of Mr Brown, stated that deceased was riding on a dray loaded with boulders, which witness was driving on the Goldstream Eoad, near the Cam mills. The boy was sitting in the centre of the load behind witness and when they were passing a garden on the roadside he drew the latter’s attention to some apples on a tree overhanging the road. Witness turned and noticed deceased falling off the dray. He caught him by part of his clothing, but it tore away, and he fell under the wheel, which passed over his body, causing injury from -which he died soon after. Other evidence was given, and the jury returned a verdict of accidental death.
