KAIAPOI LICENSING ELECTION.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Mr Edwin Peldwick, in his letter to-day, states twice that he wishes to put the matter clear before the electors. As I think he has omitted an important part I will supply it. On Friday I asked Messrs Fraser and Horrell to withdraw, and they cheerfully agreed. I then asked Mr Daly, who objected to all their party with whom he was nominated being asked to withdraw, and thought that one of the candidates selected by the publicans should withdraw. I was not aware before this that there were two parties. I having taken a prominent part in preventing a temperance committee being nominated, knew that none of these were temperance candidates. One of the publicans has since told me that the five were selected by them. I next saw Air Feld wick, who objected to withdraw unless requested by the party who nominated him. Mr Feldwick says -. “ One of whom I told that it was a mistake, because tho local bodies could not afford the expense.” This is just what I told Air Feldwick on Friday night, when it was too late to get anyone else to withdraw, Friday being the last day. I pointed out to Air Feldwick that it was in his power to stop the election, and that if he withdrew there would still be four of his party. I should like to add that I was only interested to save tho expense to the district. As a temperance man of course I am not interested in this election. —I am, &c., ISAAC WILSON. Kaiapoi, March 24.
