ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

[Per Press Association.' 1 AUCKLAND, March 23. The child of a settler named’ Geyland is reported to have been drowned in the Northern Wairoa Eiv.er, ' HOKITIKA, March 23. A man named James Cavr, a resident of Arahnra, dropped dead while walking into town this morning. • : FATAL ACCIDENTS. Ahont half-past four o’clock on Monday afternoon £ little girl named Mary Arps, daughter of Mr Diedrieh Arps, farmer, Preston’s Road, Marshlands, was kicked in the forehead by a mare belonging to her father, and died at five minutes to eleven that night. ■ The child, who was five years of age, accompanied her father to a paddock when he went to bring in the cows. He left her for a few minutes in a corner of the paddock, and on returning found that she had been kicked.

Shortly before five o’clock yesterday evening an accident occurred near the Cam Mill, Eangiora, whereby a boy, aged about five years,- the only son of Mr Jonathan •Brown, farmer, met his death. One of Mr Brown’s men was engaged carting boulders from the Ashley, to be used in the construction of a concrete culvert, on the Coldstream Eoad, and Mr Brown’s son was with' him. The little fellow was having a ride on .the leaded dray, and by some means slipped over the frbut under one of the wheels, which passed over the lower part of his body before the horses could be stopped. Death ensued very shortly afterwards, Dr Baber, who was summoned without delay, being unable to do anything for the sufferer. Much sympathy is expressed for Mr and Mrs Brown in their ■udden trouble.
