AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE.

The Board of Governors of the Canterbury Agricultural College met at the College, Lincoln, yesterday; present—Mr H. Overton (chairman), the Hon E. C. J. Stevens and Messrs H. P. Gray, B. H. Rhodes, J. Bennie and J. Bayne (Director.) i ' CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was dealt with; — From Mr James Stuckey, Wairarapa, that the two Kecefords and two Jerseys ordered from him for the College had been shipped from Wellington. From Sir James Hector with reference to affiliation with the Hew Zealand University. On the motion of the Hon E. C. J. Stevens, it was decided that the Chairman should formally apply for affiliation tc the University so as to enable the students to sit for the degree of B.Sc. in agriculture, and that the Director should forward all necessary information to Sir James Hector. From the Minister of Education, enclosing the order of reference dmich had been sunt to his Honor Mr Justice Denniston in connection with the settlement of accounts between the Canterbury College Board of Governors and the Agricultural Board ; and also from Mr T. W. Stringer, who was acting for the Lincoln College, as to fixing date for the arbitration, and as to the question of employing additional counsel. It was resolved—“ That if Mr Stringer considers it necessary to engage additional counsel to enable him to place-the case of the College in the best light he be empowered to do so.” With reference to a claim of. .£6l from Judge Ward, it was decided to act on the advice of the Board’s solicitor, and pay the amount into Court to await its award. REPORTS. The sub-committee appointed at last meeting to consider the question of drainage, reported that the best course would be to lay three chains of pipes through Mr Loohhead’s property at a cost of about .£lO, or to purchase a small piece of tha,t properly'. 1 The report was agreed to and the matter left in the hands of the committee. The committee also recommended that steps should be taken to insure that all 'the drains about the buildings wore in a satisfactory condition, and the matter, was left in the bauds of the Chairman to consult with Mr Cuthbert and to act on that gentleman’s advice. The Chairman reported upon the question of insurance, and it was decided to reduce the amount for which the buildings are insured by 513 per cent. The Chairman reported that he had arranged for the loan of ikiOO from the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association for three months at the rate of 4 per cent. His action was approved. The credit balance at the bank was reported to bo .£723 9s Sd, and accounts amounting to .£669 17s 5d were passed. ' STOCK. A sub-committee, consisting of Messrs Gray, Bennie and the Chairman, was appointed to inspect the stock and make any recommendations as to purchases required. At the request of the Government Auditor a valuation and inventory of the stock on the farm had been made. It showed a reduction of .£202 as compared with a valuation made last June. The valuations were:—June .£5288 14s sd, Pebruavv .£4986. . '

After dealing with departmental business, the Board adjourned until March 9.
