SWIMMING.

The Sydenham Amateur Swimming Club held an exhibition of aquatic sports on Saturday afternoon at the bath, Templer street, Sydenham. Considering the fine afternoon, it might have been expected that the attendance would he larger than it was. The principal event was the Prince of Wales 50yds Interclub Handicap, which resulted as follows ; First heat—J. E. Allen (Richmond) 9sec, 1; W. C. Harrington (Lyttelton) Bsec, 2. F. A. Fox (Sydenham) Usee also started. Time—l-iLsec. Second heat E, Fox (Sydenham) Ssec, 1. Or. J- C. Smart (Christchurch), Iseo, J. Wauchop (East Christchurch) 4sec and E. Neato (Richmond) 9sec also started. Time —42-sec. Third heat —W. B. Byrne (Richmond) Bsec, 1; H. Truscott (East Christchurch) 2sec, 2. J. W. Eaves (Christchnrch) 4secand E. Day (Sydenham) 9sec also started. Time —39-Jsec. Fourth heat—H. Wauchop (East Christchurch.) 7sec,. I j CUCameron (Sydenham.)

2sec, 2. J. Fox (Sydenham) 3sec and W. D. Macpherson (Christchurch) 3soc also started. Time—4lsec. Fifth heat—E. Hall (Sydenham) 2sec, a walk-over. Final heat—J. E. Allen (Richmond) 9sec, 1; H. Wauchop (East Christchurch) 7sec, 2. R. Hall (Sydenham) 2seo and E. Pox (Sydenham) Bsoc also started. Time—--41 sec.

A relay race took place between the East and Sydenham Clubs, and was won by the former. In this event a vacancy in the Sydenham team was filled by A. B. Truscott, of the Richmond Club. The teams were Bast Christchurch —H. Bullivant, F. Newton, H. Truscott and T. IV auchop ; Sydenham R. Hall, A. Russell, C. Cameron and A. B. Truscott.

The remainder of the programme consisted of spring-board diving competition, tub-race, neatest header, hurdle race, cigar and umbrella race, and dog and duck hunt. Four of these events, the spring-board diving, tub-race, hurdle race.and cigar and umbrella race were won by C. Cameron, and the neatest header was won by J. W. Eaves. The afternoon’s sport was concluded with a scratch jiolo match, in which the East Christchnrch Club beat the home club.
