ROAD BOARDS.

ELLESMERE. The ordinary meeting of Uie Ellesmere Road Board of Nov. 2 lapsed for want of a quorum, and the adjourned meeting was held on Nov. 2 ; present—Messrs G. C. Waby (chairman), W. M’Millan, A. Chamberlain, W. Nixon and Robert Loohhcad. The Board decided to draw the attention of the Hanger to the prevalence of cattle straying on roads in the vicinity of Soul hbridge. It was decided to clean the drain bounding Mr Cant’s property subject to interested owners paying one-third of the cost : also to call tenders for the following works: Forming ten chains Eallaglvs Road, Lake Flat, shingling portion of Inwood’s Eoad, and shingling portion of Bone’s Eoad. It was resolved to apply to the Government for a grant in aid of re-building- tbe Selwyn Bridge. The following tenders were accepted: For formation of a. portion of Washbourne’s Road, James Young, at 7s per chain; for forming Carston’s Street, Leeston, James Young, at Gs lid per chain; for supplying shingle for repairs to Dunsandel Saleyards Road, William Woods, at Is 3-Jd per yard ; for widening and deepening Boggy Creek, Belton’s to Sanderson’s Road, James O’Boyle, at 11s 3d per chain. The paysheet, amounting to £202 3s 3s, was examined and passed for payment. ASHLEY. The ordinary monthly meeting of this Board was held on Nov. 6; present—Messrs Million (chairman), Dobson, Kennedy. Philpott and Hodges. The Surveyor’s report was read and considered. It was decided to call tenders for breaking stones on the Main Whiterock Eoad, for gathering and breaking stones on the Mount Thomas and Trig- Pole Ford Roads, and for supplying shingle and grubbing on tbe Feruside Road. Resolved—“ That the Chairman communicate with the Minister of Lands with the object of barring the royalties on timber cut from the Birch Hill Bush expended on the newly-formed roads used by the timber carters.” Mr Dobson was appointed to attend.the meeting of local bodies to be held at Eangiora on Nov. 25, for the purpose of electing members forthe Hospital and Charitable Aid Boards. It was resolved to call tenders for opening watertables and filling in ruts on the Haylanda Back Road; also, to obtain estimates for painting and repairing the Road Board buildings. Accounts to the amount of j£3S 7s Id were passed for payment, KOWAI. The ordinary monthly meeting of this Board was held on Thursday ; present — Messrs Holdswbrth (chairman), Evans, Banks, Mathers and Dick. Correspondence was read :—From the Sefton School Committee, in reply, regarding the maintenance of the School Road. Repairs were ordered to be done conditionally. From Messrs T. Baker and Wadsworth, relative to the shingling of Bowman’s Road, Broomfield. The Overseer to inspect and report. From the Charitable Aid and Hospital Boards, in reference to election of members to take place on Nov. 25. Resolved- “ That the Clerk represent the Board, -with power to act.” The Overseer’s report was read and considered. Resolved—“ That an inspection of the Kowai-Loburu Road be made, and an estimate formed of the cost of opening a through road, to be reported on at next meeting.” Tenders for works advertised were received and declined, and fresh tenders were ordered to be invited. A list of unregistered dogs in the district was laid on the table, and the Clerk. was instructed to cause informations to be laid, should the owners not register forthwith. Minor works were ordered to be effected, and the meeting closed, after passing accounts for payment amounting to .£122 15s 6d.
