F 1823 THE LIBERTY LEAGUE. PRINCIPLE, NOT PARTY. THE AIM of the LIBERTY LEAGUE is to obtain by constitutional means sucn legislation in the future as will be conducive to the best interests of the people by conserving their individual and collective liberties. With this object in view, the members of the League, by a unanimous vote, resolved that, at the forthcoming election, they would support Messrs LEWIS, MARCIEL and COLLINS, for the following reasons Ist. Because these three candidates will give fair representation to the rational electors of Christchurch. 2nd. Because they are eminently qualified to’give practical effect to the aims and objects of the League, as set forth in its platform, and to legislate generally for the welfare of all sections of the community. 3rd. Because their return to Parliament will be a powerful object lesson to all concerned, demonstrating the fact that whenever the welfare of the community is menaced by any fanatical section, party feeling will be sacrificed for the time being for the purpose of upholding the rights and liberties of. the people. The members of the Liberty League desire to impress upon their fellow-electors the fact that the work of the League has been in the direction of forming a combination among all those whose liberties are menaced, and the League is of opinion that the only way at the present juncture to conserve those liberties is to vote for Messrs LEWIS, MARGIE Land COLLINS.
