RANGIORA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The* monthly meeting of the Eangiora Borough Council was held on Friday evening ; present —the Mayor (MrT. Keir), Councillors Blackett, Cone, Carmichael, Good, Shankland, Luxton, Sansom and Jennings. An apology was received for the absence of Councillor Foster. Correspondence was read :—From Mr G. P. Purby, offering to purchase fifty loads of channel sweepings at 9d per load delivered. The request was granted, delivery to be convenient to the Council as to distance and quantity. From tho Mandevillo and Rangiora Road Board, applying for a grant towards the suppression of the small birds nuisance. A grant of =£s was passed. Notice was received of tho Hospital and Charitable Aid Board elections ; also letters from Messrs A. Chalmers and S. R Wobb, offering themselves for - re-election as representatives of the amalgamated Boroughs. The Mayor was appointed to represent the Borough at the election on Nov. 25. A complaint respecting the conduct of the Borough Ranger was received from tho Rev P. R. Monro. On account of this and other complaints, it was resolved to give the ranger a mouth’s notice of dismissal, and to invite fresh applications for. the position. An offer was made by Mr A. P. Tutton to continue his lease of the Maria Andrews Park for five years at a. rental of „£l2 per year-, and

to sow it down in English grass. In viev. of water being laid on from the Wai makariri-Ashley races, it was considered inadvisable to let. the park for a long period. On the motion of Councillor Blackett, it was resolved to offer to let it for one year, the Council to have the right of entering upon the property at any time to effect improvements. The financial statement showed —Receipts .£SB 2s 2d and bank debit balance .£66 14s I'd. Accounts amounting to £56 13s 3d. were passed for payment. Committees were elected for the year as follow: —Works, Councillors Carmichael, Foster and Luxton; finance,. Councillors Good, Sansom and Jennings; lighting. Councillors Blackett, Cone and Shankland; fire brigade. Councillors Cone, Shankland and Luxton; the first-named in each case to be chairman. It was resolved that the police should be requested to prosecute any persons throwing flour or any offensive matter on the polling day, and that the Mayor should take any steps he may consider necessary to assist the police in the matter. Instruction was given the Town Clerk to sue for certain accounts for asphalting if not paid within fourteen days. The meeting then terminated.
