Lord Salisbury, in his speech at Bradford, said that it was imperative for the Empire to assume new responsibilities when opening now markets in uncivilised nations.
The vacancy caused in. the representation of Warwick and Learnington in the House of Commons, owing to the retirement of the Speaker, the Eight Hou A. W. Peel, has been filled by the return of Mr Lyttelton, a Unionist, by a' majority of five hundred votes.
[[At the last election the Eight Hon A. W. Peel, Liberal Unionist, was returned unopposed.]
