ST JOHN AMBULANCE ASSOCIATION.

The usual monthly meeting of the committee took place on Monday last in tbo City Council library; present—the Mayor (Mr Cooper), Meadames Caro, Gibbs, Hacon, Hulbarfc, Izard and Naahoiaki, Misses Bowron and Phcney, Messrs Jekyll, Wobb and the Secretary. Apologias for absence were received from Mosdames Julius, Kinsey, Webb and Mr Maiming. The Secretary reported that Dr Murdoch had received his appointment as honorary life member of the Association in recognition of his services last year as a gratuitous lecturer. The Canterbury Jockey Club had sent a subscription of .£3 3e, stating that they proposed to make it annually, in recognition of tho services afforded by the Association at the meetings of the club. At the request of the Jockey Club, the Committee had agreed to supply a hamper of surgical requisites, to be stationed permanently at the racecourse in charge of the club. Mr S packman had applied for the occasions! use of a wheeled litter, which had been granted conditionally on the litter being promptly returned on each occasion. Three cases of invalid transport had been dealt with, two persons having been removed to tho hospital on tho litter aud one from Waltham to the hospital in tho horse ambulance. The 'Women’s First Aid Glasses in Christchurch were in progress under Dra Jennings and Palmer, lecturers, aud had an attendance of thirty new members each. A detached class in first aid Son women had been arranged at Avonaido schoolroom, to start during the present week, with Miss Phenoy as local honorary secretary and Dr Lomax-Sraith as lecturer. Correspondence had been received Prom Lord Glasgow, stating that he had signed and forwarded certificates to Napier snd Woodbury branches. Prom Dunedin centra, reporting that it had arranged to take over the, Oamosu branch, and would endeavour to revive the Invercargill branch. Prom Dr Withers, of Southbridge, and Mr Blyth, of Leesfcoa, asking for instructions regarding the formation of a branch in their district. Dr E. W. Anderson, secretary of tho Canterbury Branch of the New Zealand Medical Association, attended the meeting i at this stage, and assisted tho committee in framing the following rules for the usa > of tho horse ambulance and litters, which were passed:—• Invalid Transport Service (for sick and injured persons, infections cases excepted) —(1) Bemovals aro made without responsibility, and in each case on the understanding that the patient ia free from infections disease. In all doubtful cases the certificate of a doctor may bo required. ■ (2) Tho horse amhul&nco or wheeled litters may be engaged on application to the caretaker at tho Chester Street Fire Station on the following terms:—Horse ambu-, 1 lance, minimum charge 10s per case if not exceeding on© hour, and 5s for every succeeding half-hour or fraction. Wheeled litter—Minimum charge 2s 6d per case if not exceeding one hour, and 2s every succeeding hour or fraction. The time to include going and returning. Donations over and above these charges are invited from parsons who can afford to assist the Association in performing tho service for indigent persons. Payments to be made at the time of removal in exchange for a printed receipt. (In case of calls without prepayment or guarantee.) (3) The horse ambulance will only be sent on the order of a medical man, or, in case one is not available, of soma responsible person; otherwise, s litter will be sent. Tho horse ambulance or litters will not bo sent at the call of the police, or of the Charitable Aid Board, unless tho Government or the Boardundertako tho payment of the charges in such cases. (4) A bottle of chloroform and a packet containing a hypodermic syringe and morphia, both scaled and marked " poison, only to bo opened by a medical man,” will be placed in the ambulance hamper sad sent with the conveyance, tho doctor breaking the zeal to be held responsible. Accounts were passed for payment amounting to £8 7a, and the meeting then closed.
