WAIRARAPA RELIEF FUND.
[Pss Pbsbb Association.! AUCKLAND, Mat 14. A mealing of the general committee of the Wsirarapa Belief Fund wan bold today to receive tbo report of the cub-com-mittee, and to arrange for a final disposal of tho baianca now ia hand. The Secretary read tho report of tho investigation and Bub-Committees, which,’ after giving a history oi the various relief efforts, said: —Statements of losses were received from forty-three men and eleven women passengers and thirty-three members of the crow. After investigation, thirtythree men and ten women passengers and twenty-six members of the crew were assisted by the Auckland committee. It is now ouggeated that tho Auckland committee should vote £l5O (including special contributions named in account), cowards tho fund for the late Mrs Il’Donald’a family and that XlO should be granted to the aged parents, living at Ocahnhu, of a young man lost in tho wrack. This will leava only two cases to bo dealt with, two widows residing at Auckland. In tho ease of a widow with four children, tho committee recommends tho appropriation of .£350 from tho Auckland fund to ho added to £3OO from Wellington, and invested in tho purchase of a bouse. In tho case of tho other widow, who has only one child, the committee) recommends that £3OO should ba handed to the Public Trustee, to bo ' paid to the widow (it the rata of 25s a week for two years end 10s for so long thereafter as tho money will allow. Including the vote from Wellington, there ia a balance of £1063 17s. The committee recommends its disposal ns follows:—For Mrs Veal and family £550, Mrs Cruncher and child £3OO, aged couple at Otahuhn £lO, Mrs M’Doaald’s family £l5O, total £lOlO, leaving a balance of £53 170. After the preparation of the necessary deeds, it is expected that this balance will bo reduced to £37. The statement of accounts showed that tho total receipts by tho Auckland committee amounted to £143713a Od, and the expenditure to £364 IGs 9d, leaving a balance of £863 17s. o?his, with £2OO voted by the Wellington Committee for Mrs Veal, gives £1063 17s. On the motion of tho Hon G. M/Cnlloob, tbo report and accounts wore adopted, and the several grants therein mentioned wore approved and confirmed. The following resolutions were earned:—“That the balance of the fund, after the payment of all claims and charges, bo handed to the Treasurer of the fund now being raised for the widows and orphans of the two Lauries, recently drowned in the Maauk&u ; that the President (the Mayor), Mr C. Clarke (Treasurer) and Mr Barber (Secretary) ba requested to continue their functions until a final settlement; and that the terms of the'deeds of trust ba left to them ; that Mr Jonas, F.S.A., England, bo requested to audit the accounts.”
