Tho Paatoralists’ Union declares that the engagement system is act a breach of the agreement. The scheme has advantages for both parties, and the Union has every intention of adhering to the present system. Further disturbances have occurred at the Co-operative mines. The tributers were again maltreated, despite the police escort, and two of the ringleaders of the rioters were arrested. A Labour member drew the attention of the House last night to the action of the police, alleging that batons were freely used on women and children as well as on men. Sir G. Dibbs, in reply, said that the Labour members did their utmost to harass the operations of the police while attempting to preserve the peace. The charge was a cowardly one. He declared that law and order should bo maintained at all coats.

A deputation baa requested the Post-master-General to bring before the Postal Conference the insertion of a clause in the ■mail contracts prohibiting the employment of coloured labour on mail steamers. The Shearers’ Union will probably invite several members of the New Zealand Parliamentary Labour Party to visit New South Wales and address meetings in various centres during the forthcoming election campaign.
