The South British, National aud New Zealand Insurance Companies hold re-in-surances on the steamer Kaaahooka. THE ROEBURNE HURRICANE. ■ PERTH, Jan. 29.

Farther details concerning the hurricane ia the Roeburne district show that nearly all tho luggers were driven ashore, many of them being completely wrecked. The tram line suffered so seriously that it will take three months to. repair the damage. Traffic in the district is entirely suspended, tho bridges being impassable. The station holders suffered severely. The Woodbrook homestead was destroyed and a Chinaman drowned, the rest of the occupants having narrow escapes. Sherrock station ia completely ruined; all the buildings were swept away, and tho inhabitants, including women, had to fly to tho hills, wading up to their waists in water. Captain Fletchen Hosier, of the German warship Bussard, had one of his fast amputated to-day by Dr Shames, the ship’s surgeon. Dr Haines administering the chloroform. It appears that he got the heel pricked and poisoned while ashore on one of the South Sea Islands. He has bean lying at tho Grand Hotel since Christmas. The nows that an operation was imperatively necessary cast a great gloom over tho officers aud men of the Bus&ard, with whom Captain Fletchen Hoefer was most deservedly popular. The resignation of hia command has been sent to Germany, and ib is expected that the Bussard’e new commander will arrive about the beginning of March. GISBORNE, Jan. 29. A boy named Heapy, aged 13, was accidentally drowned while bathing on Sunday. , WELLINGTON, Jan. 29. A seaman of the ship Blenheim, named A. West, has been missing since Saturday night. The police suspect that ha is drowned, and are dragging the harbour. West was drinking in town with hia mates on Saturday night, and was last seen oa the Queen’s Wharf at 1 ».m. The decomposed body of a fully-dressed sailor was found under tho wharf this evening, and is supposed to be the sailor missing from the barque Tahiti. The man missed from the Blenheim had no coat or vest. The medical men yesterday held a consultation on the esse of Mrs M’Lenahan, who was seriously injured by a tramway accident in Cathedral Square on Sunday evening, and decided to try aud save the injured limbs. Mrs M'Leaahan ia progressing aa favourably as can be expected. The Wairarapa Star reports that a young man named Walter Ssatree ran a thorn into one of his arms whilst in the South Island some years ago. He noticed no ill effects until be lately went to work at the Mauriceville lime kilns, when the arm begun to swell and show signs of decay. He was admitted to the Mastertoa Hospital, where it was found that the arm was completely “ honeycombed.” So serious was the case that tho medical officer considered amputation necessary.
