SALE OF THOEOU QHBEED YEARLINGS. FPeb Puiss Association.] L AUCKLAND, Jan. 3. The eighth annual sale of yearlings br ed bv Mr Thomas Motrin was held at Wellington Park to-day. The attendance was quite up to that of previous years. Among the moat noteworthy of the absentees were the Hoc J. D. Ormond, of Napier, and Mr G. G. Stead, of Christchurch. The following were at the ring side:—-Hon Hugh Moasman. M.L.A., of New South Wales, Mr Bligh, Mr S. Hordern, jun., Mr M. Power (all hailing from the same colony), Messrs S. H. Goilan (Hawke’s Bay), D. O’Brien (Christchurch), T. P. Lowry (Hawke’s Bay), M. J. Goodson (Hawera) and a large number of Auckland sportsmen. The sale passed off in a mosfc.euccessfnl manner. There was great competition for the Frailty colt, but the representative of a New South Wales sportsman (Mr S. Hordern) could not be silenced, end this magnificent half-brother to the celebrated Trenton went to that gentleman at 1575 ga. Amongst the principal bidders for the colt were Messrs D. O’Brien and John Marshall. The nest highest lot was a Castor—Necklace colt, who was also secured ou behalf of Mr Hordern, for ICoOgs, the same gentleman who figured in the bidding for the Frailty colt being again in evidence.
