IN MEMORIAM.
BISHOP HARPER. Ob., I)K. SS, 1533. “Go forth to My field and bring Me of the best of the wheat” He saith— T’was the Lord of the Harvest’s bidding to the Keoper whose name is Death — And he of the golden sickle sped forth a.t the King’s behest, And gathered into His garner the one that we loved the best— Loved lor Ids grace and sweetness; loved for bis tender cave; For his life of full completeness, and the crown of his silver hair; For lie was our gentle shepherd, and we are the flock he fed, And into the pleasant pastures and by the still waters led.
Sturdy of mind and spirit, as sturdy and firm of frame : Yet kindly withal, and tender, as the servant of Christ became ; • Doing the .work of ibo Master with a loving heart and a true Doing with all his might tho work that came to his hand to do. A irustv and faithful shepherd, caring for all the fold; A reverend Father-in-God indeed, rev’renced hy young and old. Eevcrond in years and counsel, rev’rcud in life and mien— 1 Sorrow ia ours to-day to think that no more shal his face bo seen.
Sorrow is ours—for ourselves alone—that we hear no more his voice; Sorrow we not at all for him—nay, rather for him rejoice ; For him there is no more sorrow, for him there is no more night. The liuihf'ul servant hath entered the joy of the lord of I,i;rht: No longer with weary footsteps shall the path of life, lie irod. He bath entered “the rest that reinuineih for all the people of God,” Whore for over, and over, and ever the son" of the ransomed rings. And the white-robed angels encompass the throne of the Kins oi Kings.
“ I’ni! of years and of hono!ir'’—tho talc <4 his life is lohi, The cord of silver is loosed, and shattered thehowl or gold ; Yet long shall the pleasant perfume of his fragrant life endure. And the Giver of Good he thanked for a life eo sweet find pure! And now with a tender rev’renco lay we his ashes down, lie is not here, hut yonder, wearing the golden crown, Away in the fadeless sunlight, where God is Himself ilie Sim, And his is the welcome guerdon of the Master’s glad " Well done Wm. J. STEWARD,
