WAIMAKARIRI HARBOUR BOARD.

The usual meeting of the Waimakaiiri Harbour Board was held on Monday evening; present—Mr Liasaman (Chairman), Messrs Evans, Hopkins, Parnham, Hiatt, Doubleday, Butt, Horrell and Mathews. Correspondence was received—Prom Mrs Wearing, thanking the Board for its kind expressions concerning her late husband. Prom the Marine Department as to defining the Board's boundaries. It was resolved that Mr Evans should interview the Land Beard officer and ascertain all particulars available, and also see adjoining landholders. Prom Mr Eokersley, as agent for Mr E. Manning, applying for a transfer or a section from Wearing’s trustees to Mr Manning. It was agreed to leave the matter till next meeting. From Mr S. Johnstone, stating hia willingness to contribute £5 towards making the proposed channel near hia land if the channel for navigation were made and kept on the south side of the river. The letter was received. Prom Messrs Wilson and Alexander, saying that they were willing to meet the Board in any way with respect to the debentures. The Pilot’s report was received and adopted with certain minor alterations. It stated that the tonnage for the month was: Inwards 156 tons, and outwards X3B tons. The Pilot was instructed to keep the river staked for the guidance of vessels coming in; also not to have the small flagstaff repaired until it was seen if it would be required in future, as the bar had considerably altered during the late very heavy freshes. The finance report, which showed receipts £2O 11a 2d, expenditure <£32 5i 3d, credit at Bank £73 18a 6d was adopted. The Committee appointed to look into the Board’s leases, &c., reported that it had found that some leaseholders had complied with the requirements aa to insurance, while others had not. The report recommended that a charge of 2d per ton should be made on all tonnage inwards and outwards. The report was adopted. It was decided to ascertain from the Lyttelton Harbour Board particulars as to its charges on all small craft, and to report at the next meeting. A copy of a Bill was received from Mr Moore, M.H.8., concerning vesting certain sections in the Borough now held by the Board in the Council. It was decided to forward a letter, agreeing to the same. It was resolved that the Secretary should furnish each member at next meeting with a list of the Board’s tenants, their annual rentals, and the different arrears of rout, &c. Mr Butt proposed that the Chairman and Mr Doubleday be a Committee, with power to call a special meeting for the consideration of the Board’s boundaries. Mr Hopkins seconded tne motion, which was carried. It was resolved to write to the Eangiora Elver Board drawing attention to the large quantity of willow cuttings coming down the river. Mr Horrell tendered his resignation on the Finance Committee, but it was not accepted. Mr Butt was added to the Works Committee and Mr Hiatc to the Finance Committee, in place of Messrs Praaer and Peldwick. Mr Mathews was chosen Chairman of the Works Committee.
