[Feb Pbess Association.! AUCKLAND, Sept. 7. Ellen Howard, alias Rowe, was committed for trial on a charge of larceny of a cashbox and contents of a value of .£1328. R. B. Lusk, late Provincial Treasurer, is dead, aged ninety-three. At the inquest on Richard Walsh, bailiff, a verdict of suicide while temporarily insane through domestic troubles was returned. Some pitiful letters written by. the deceased were read. He was apparently worried to death. George Dale Ellis, arrested on a telegram from Wellington on a charge of forging a promissory note at Wellington, purporting to be signed by one Annie Hay, waa remanded to Wellington. A charge of larceny of £47 worth of jewellery was withdrawn. WELLINGTON, Sept._ 7. The Alameda, with the English mails of August 8, left San Francisco for Auckland OB August 21, one day late. The Maripota, with the Colonial mails of August 17, arrived at San Francisco from Auckland on Sept. 5, the contract date. In the case of Goldie v. the Ellis Steamship Company, a claim for £2O for loss of luggage, the Resident Magistrate, Mr Robinson, ruled on a, Supreme Court authority that he had no jurisdiction to dispose of the case. ; Mrs Eiddiford, setat seventy-seven, died yesterday. She came oat in 1840 with her husband, who was one of the founders of the settlement. DUNEDIN, Sept. 7. The Island Block Company is reported to have obtained 900ozs of gold for a ten days' run. ~ i At a meeting to-night it was decided to hold a Christian Convention on the Cup day in February, and a Committee was appointed to arrange details.
