“ WHEN FOUND MAKE A NOTE OF .”

The above was one of the favourite expressions of the renowned “ Captain Cuttle.” immortalised by Dickens in his “ Dombey and Son,” and like the sayings of Confucius, Plato, Socrates and other great men, who were looked to as oracles in their day and generation on account of their vast learning and almost boundless wisdom, it has much to recommend it, and has a modern application. When, for example, you find a hotel that dispenses the delicious “House of Commons ” Whiskey—the same as it supplied to the patrician' members of that ancient and honourable institution, the House of Commons —“ make a note of it,” and having sampled this pure spirit, recommend it to your friends. Make a note of this fact also, that only those hosts who, regardless of expense, cater for the benefit of the health of their customers, and who are not so everlastingly studying their purses, stock this whiskey in preference to a “ cheap ” brand, which does more to injure the health and undermine the constitution than anything else besides; and you can be pretty sure that the hotels presided over by such hosts are of the highest character, and will be replete with all that contributes to a traveller’s comfort and enjoyment. We have not written a word of Messrs James Buchanan and Co.’s “ House of Commons ” whiskey that we are not prepared to substantiate by documentary evidence of the most unimpeachable character, and if any “ honest doubter ” requires further proof that it deserves all that is claimed for it, let him just step inside any respectable and well-appointed hotel and call for this whiskey, or order it from any wine and spirit merchant or wholesale grocer.
