PARLIAMENTARY.
[Ter Press Association.] HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. Saturday, August 15. ELECTORAL BILL. After the Telegraph Office closed. The Hon W. P. Reeves said he left the matter of reporting progress in the hands of the Committee, and if the desire was to go on ho was quite willing to do that. Ho reminded members that, as the Bill was a Government measure, it would come up again. In reply to Mr J. Kelly, Mr Beeves said ho would represent to the Premier (who was absent on account of ill-health) that there seemed to be a strong feeling in the House in favour of the Bill. Mr E. G. Wright thought that if progress were reported nothing more would be heard of the Bill this session. Mr Meredith remarked that there were over fifty members in the House pledged to support the Bill. Mr Buckland appealed to the House to maintain its! dignity by keeping control of its own business. Mr E. Thompson could see that this ■would not be the last stonewall of the session. Eventually the motion to report progress was carried by 20 to 18. All the Bills that had been passed through Committee during the afternoon and evening sittings, excepting the Public Revenue Bill, were reported, read a third time, and passed. The House rose at 2.30 a.m.
