On a recent voyage of the White Star Line's fine steamship Majestic from Queenstown to New York, she made an average speed of 20-023 knots, the best hourly average ever made by an ocean steamer. The time occupied on the voyage was 5 days 22hr 20min. The steamer Industry left Bluff on Saturday evening tor this port, to be docked for repairs. She may be expected in Port late this afternoon, and will have to discharge a large quantity of her cargo before being docked. Jhe ship Zealandia is making good progress with the discharge of her cargo of merchandise, which is turning out in splendid condition. The ship Juletrae is awaiting a favourable opportunity to pub to sea. She is bound for Wellington, where she fills up with flax for an American port on account of the New Zealand Shipping Company, The schooner Annie Wilson, which left the wharf on Friday for Kaipara with a full load of produce, proceeded only as far as the Heads that night, and returned to the anchorage, where she remained until Saturday morning. The steamer Penguin arrived from northern porta on Saturday forenoon. She left Nelson at 1 p.m. on August 13, Picton at 10.80 p.m. the same day, and Wellington at 3jp.m. onlAugusb 14. Fine ■weather was experienced throughout the passage. She returned to northern ports on Saturday night. The steamer Piado, the vessel chartered by Mr C. W. Tumor to replace the Industry, whose charter is just out, left on Saturday night for Auckland and Sydney, taking a quantity of produce from this port. Captain Lovett " signed on ” as commander at this port. Captain Carnie, who brought the vessel across from Sydney, going back aa passenger. Mr Olsen, late of the Union Steamship Company’s service, is chief officer of the Fiado, which is a splendid - tvne Of the cargo-carrying boat, with large commodious hatchways extending almost the entire length of her weU-deoka. Mariposa, due yesterday at 2 p.m. from Sydney, had not put in an appearance up to 5.30 this evening. The easterly gale which has been blowing for the past two days, with thick weather and rain to-day, has probably caused the delay in her arrival. Timaru, August 15.
