An estimate shows that when the sixpenny postage rate to England was in force, tho loss on tho Federal Mail Service was £563, whereas this year, under the 2£d rate, it is expected that the loss will be £12,725. Mr Bruce Smith replaces Mr M'Millan as Treasurer, and Mr SToung, who was formerly Speaker -of the Lower House, tabes Mr Smith’s place as Minister for Public Works. A GOVERNMENT VICTORY. BRISBANE, August 14, In the Legislative Assembly, Mr Donaldson’s motion “that the House do not go into Committee of Supply until the Government brings down a full and definite financial statement,” was negatived by 33 to 18.
