SPORTING:

TRAINING NOTES. Riccaston, Monday. Another mild morning favoured trainers, and the work performed was of an interesting kind. Regina, going strongly, covered three miles, the pace throughout being sound. The Napier horse, Otaieri, who is rather much on the leg to please most people, was given two rounds at about half-speed. Hill’s pair. Kangaroo and The Druid, the former with sweaters on, finished up a three-mile spin at nearly top. The steeplechaser goes the freer of the two, and is in nice condition. Kulnine had for a companion Norton in half - pace exercise. Ahua was sent a couple of rounds at an even gallop, going fresh and well. The portion allotted Sentinel was much the same as usual —long half-speed exercise. Tauraekaitai, after travelling slowly for a couple of miles, wound up by going once round at a fair gallop. Mr Gollan v rode Dan in long, fast work, the hunter having Leonie as a companion. Cheshunt wont a round at his best pace and a second circuit steadily. Irish King, Camera, and Statesman were cantered. Captain Abram was not extended, but his stable companion. Freeman, along with Lyndoora, went fast for some distance, and Was then sent over the schooling fences, which he negotiated in fine style. The horse is very fit and well, and should run forward in the big steeplechase. Lyndoora was also jumped, but over the smaller obstacles. Conranto was another that jumped, being sent at a strong pace over the hurdles. Scamp was given a twocircuit half-pace gallop, and Erin-go-Bragh exercised similarly. Mr Claridge has Scamp in capital order. Waitangi, who goes better each morning, had the best of Christmas in a gallop of twice round the track. The latest arrival from the North Island, a powerful bay named Waihi, was sent halfpace work. Caitiff, Lisbon, Lightning and Begorrah did useful exercise; also Encore, who is standing well. Lauucelot was taken fast over the hurdles. An allusion in Saturday’s Notes to Glen’s performance at Plumpton appears to have been misunderstood. It was not intended to imply that the owner or rider of the horse had been guilty of any impropriety; indeed the running in the Gone Away Plate has been satisfactorily explained, and the apparent improvement in form was merely .mentioned as an illustration of the changes aged horses frequently display in the course of a few days. He Is not at all a determined goer. Darnley and Kimberley were worked at an early hour. Of horses not required for immemediate service Freedom and his younger stable companions did good work, as did Cajolery and Cianrauald; Crackshot, pulling hard, was given a couple of rounds, and Messrs Cutts and Webb’s horses did a fair amount of exercise.

The various Sub-Com-mittees of last year were re-olected. The Programme Committee was requested to include a race for two and three-year-olds in tho autumn programme. As several owners have already expressed their intention of entering youngsters for this race, it will doubtless form an attractive item in the next autumn programme. Owing to the flourishing condition of the Club, this season’s programme will be made more attractive than ever.
