Wm. Y. Biudon has been committed for trial for an alleged indecent assault. Bail was allowed, sureties £IOO and himself in a like amount. WOODVILLE, August 10. A man named North committed suicide by shooting himself at Makuri. He left a note saying he was tired of life. It is supposed that he was one of the unemployed, but no further particulars are to hand. WELLINGTON. August 10. A conference of flour-millers was opened this morning, Mr Meek, of Oamaru, being chosen Chairman. The proceedings were private. DUNEDIN, August 10. The master of the Industrial School at Caversham, states that there is no truth in the statement of a girl of about fourteen, arrested at Auckland for vagrancy, that she recently went to Auckland from the school. At a meeting of the National Liberal Association, the fair rent question was discussed, and it was resolved to ask Parliament to consider the advisability of establishing a tribunal for the periodical adjustment of rents. At the annual meeting of the Bible Society, the report stated that the amount contributed during tho year waa £250. The number of Bibles issued from the depot was 6729, making the total number issued by the Society 88,966. INVERCARGILL, August 10. A body recovered from the harbour this forenoon has been identified by two business men as that of Andrew Miller, who at one time had an interest in a business in this town, and afterwards a store at Colac Bay, near Riverton, but who seems to have fallen into very poor circumstances. He was about thirty-five years old, and a native of Scotland.
