KAIAPOI BOROUGH COUNCIL

The usual meeting of this body was held on Tuesday night; ■ present—the Mayor (Mr B. Blakeley), and Councillors Weston, Doubleday, Fraser, Bugg, Butt, Lissaman, Blighting, and Anaersou. Letters were received froni the oecretary of the Municipal Association, forwarding minutes of the Conference held at Wellington. , „, L „ From the Christchurch City .Council, forwarding account.of charges,on the Fire Brigade plant imported for the local Brigade. • ' From the Insurance Company as to the risk on the'Fire Brigade'station. ■ ■ l ' The Surveyor reported., that owners of. property- in Charles street declined to rtllow the proposed drain: to pass,' through their property. Ho, suggested a new,lino of drainage.' The report wa s' received, ana the Council resolved to take no' action in the matter for the present. Councillor Weston reported, for the Finance Committee, the receipts for the past fortnight to be .£32 Bs. General account, debit balance, £402 15s Id. Loan, account, credit balance £139 2s Od; and recomuiended accounts for payment amountingto£7o 13s 6d. The report was adopted. Councillor Brighton* reported for the Works Committee that it had had the bell tower repaired, and advised that the bell should be placed some sis feet higher. The action of the Works Committee was approved. Tenders were received for painting the morgue and Fire Brigade station, and the tender of Mr F. Bate for £ll 4s was accepted. Fcr a, culvert at Feldwick'e drain the tender of Messrs Balliutine and Thompson, £2l 14s, was accepted. For grading the footpath on the North road, Mr Lambert’s tender, £6 10s, was accepted, and for the hire of horse, driver and dray Mr Lambert’s tender of 8s 6d per day for one horse, or 11s 6d for two, was accepted. Councillor Bugg moved—" That in future plans and specifications be laid on the table before tenders be invited, and that in all cases the same shall bo approved of by the Works Committee.” This was seconded by Councillor Lissaman and

curried* Councillor Bugg moved—" That the foreman act as clerk of works to the Council.” This was seconded by Councillor Butt and carried.

Leave of absence was granted to Councillor Stanton and the meeting terminated.
