[Received August 8, at 10.15 a.m.] SYMPATHY WITH SPURGEON. SYDNEY, August S. The Anglican Synod has passed a resolution of sympathy with tho Rev C. Spurgeon. Objection was taken to the resolution by several members, on the ground that Mr Spurgeon is a schismatic. THE AUSTRALIAN SQUADRON. THURSDAY ISLAND, August 8. The cruisers worked faultlessly throughout the voyage. Their officers are convinced that they aro good sea boats, but have the disadvantage of being very wet in rough seas. [Received August 10, at 12.35 a.m,] FIRE. MELBOURNE, August 9. Hay’s drapery establishment at Eaglehawk, near Sandhurst, has been destroyed by fire. The damage is estimated at i>I2,COO. New Zealand Companies have a risk, but the amount is not known at present.
