[Peb Fbibb Association.] PALMERSTON NORTH, Sam. 19. ' A man named Leslie Ireland was drowned in the Manawatu river on Tuesday, through the capsizing of a punt. Deceased waa twenty-four years of age. HeisbaU® 7 ®** to be a native of Blenheim. The body has not been recovered. WELLINGTON, Skit. 19. A waiter at the Olub Hotel, Lwnbton Quay, fell from the top storey this monu ing while cleaning a window, and suffered concussion of the brain, an injury to nit spine, and other injuries. He ie not ea> pected to live. J Some time back considerable exdtemanl was occasioned at Carterton owing to tho sudden disappearance of a child of Mr Thompson, one of the residents. Sere™ search parties were out, but no trace of th# body was discovered until yesterday, when it was found in a gully five miles from where the child was last seen alive* Decomposition was in an advanced stage* An inquest will be held. About .£6OO has been subscribed in aid of the relatives of those of the pilot crew who were drowned at the Heads ft few weeks back. One-eighth goes to Mrt CM, wife of one of the crew; one-eighth to the mother of another; £SO to the parents of the late Pilot Simms; and the balance, about £4OO, to be vested for Mrs Simms and her children.
