ROAD BOARDS.

HEATHCOTE. The above Board met on Thursday at 4 p.m.; present —Messrs A. M. Oliivier I Chairman), W. Beer, B. J. Palmer, R. i Irown, and R. Martindale. —The receipts i reic reported to be £157 6s 6d.—The (Jlerk reported that the cost of tho culvert ’ under the Opawa road would be .£ls. It was decided to let the matter stand over. , —The Clerk was instructed to renew the culverts on the Sumner road where required ; also to give notice that all rates not paid ou or before August 16 will be sued for.—The action of the Drainage Board in restoring the Heathcote Drainage district to its original boundary was approved, -Mr Brown dissenting. Correspondence •was dealt with: —From Messrs Harper and Co., re deed of concession to Canterbury Tramway Company, Limited, and enclosing draft deed for approval. The Chairman to peruse and, if satisfactory, approve of. —From Mr J. G. Warner, giving notice of intention to start work of making tramway. Received. —Prom the Halswell Road Board, re re-grading Dyer’s Pass road. Received. —From Mr Kilgour and others, re gorse fence on Woodham road. To be attended to at once.—From the Sydenham Borough Council, re accounts. The Clerk to reply.—After passing accounts for -£124 Is, the meeting closed.—The same members then sat as a local Board of Health.— Correspondence wasread : —From Dr Hunt, reporting a case of diphtheria.—Prom Mr G. W. Bennett, re nuisance caused by pigstye. The Inspector reported that the place was very dirty, and was instructed to lay an information against W. Hedgman, as lie had not complied with the order to abate the nuisance. The meeting then closed. ELLESMERE. The monthly meeting was held at Lecston on Wednesday ; present—Messrs M. Jones (Chairman), G. C. Waby, John Rennie, J. R. Campbell, and R. Lockhead. —Correspondence was read: —From Mr R. Jackman, asking for a bridge over Hart’s creek to give access to his property. The Board decided that they were unable to erect a bridge; but the Overseer was instructed to have the ford improved.— From Mr Wynn-Williams, re Holley’s case, stating that he had been served with a notice of discontinuance of the case by plaintiff's solicitors. —Mr Hebbard interviewed the Board re the state of the road between Lees ton and Sou Uxbridge. To be attended to.—Messrs Woodman and John Wills applied for assistance in drainage near the Irwell. Mr Lunn was instructed to take levels and report at the next meeting. —Mr F. Woods applied for repairs on Alles’s road. It was decided to form about twelve or fourteen chains. —Tenders were considered, and that of Mark Baylia for cleaning drain on Boag’s road was accepted.—Mr Lunn reported on the drain known as Ruddock’s, near Wilson’s mill. The actual fall was only two inches. He recommended that the Board widen road drain, and level the bottom, which will give a better outlet — tho work to he undertaken in the summer, subject to Mr Ruddock indemnifying the Board from any further claim.—A large number of gorse notices were ordered to be served.—The Overseer’s report was considered, and the pay sheet, amounting to ,£154 18s Bd, was passed for payment. —It was decided to have poisoned wheat prepared ready for next sale day, August 10.— The Board decided to issue summons for all outstanding rates not paid by August 15. —After dealing with routine business, the Board adjourned. SOUTH MALVERN. The monthly meeting was held on Wednesday; present—Messrs MUlraith, Jamieson, Doyle, Longdale, and E. M’Millan. Correspondence was read on matters of minor detail: Prom A. Craighead, notifying tho presence of diphtheria.—The Clerk was instructed to have damaged roads repaired.—Tenders were opened and one accepted for each job.—Clerk to order poisoned wheat. — Alter passing accounts amounting to M 0 Gs lOd the Board adjourned.—The adjourned annual ratepayers’ meeting was then held. This was merely a formal meeting to receive the audited accounts, which were passed, and the meeting terminated.
