WAIMAKARIRI HARBOUR BOARD.

A special meeting of this Board was held on Monday night. There were present—Messrs R. Moore (Chairman), Oram, Pashby, Smethurst, Fraser, Moody, May, and Mathews.

Letters were read from the Treasury, enclosing voucher for pilot’s salary. Prom the Marine Department, re pilot’s appointment. Mr Fraser proposed, and Mr May seconded —“ That a letter be written to the Marine Department, informing them that in connection with the Kaiapoi pilot’s appointment, the Board adheres to its former decision.” Carried. A letter was read from the Eyreton Eoad Board, stating that they had written to the member for the district, asking him to use his best efforts in retaining the services of the pilot. The Pilot’s report was read as follows : “ I have been unable to place new buoys, owing to freshets and the boat being engaged. During the last flood the ground on which one of the beacons stood was washed away, and the beacon was lost. The bar, which is moving towards the north, is much improved. I will sound it as soon as possible. I shall require a new beacon,” The Pilot’s report was adopted. In reply to an application for cooperage standing on Board’s property, it was agreed to accept a rental of 5s per week for it. The Secretary reported that he had received a letter front.Mr Bristow, C.E., stating that the plans of foreshore would be completed and forwarded in a few days. The Secretary was instructed to .procure from the Survey , Department copies of all correspondence re foreshores. The Works Committee brought up a, report of a scheme, for improving the navigation of the river. After considerable discussion the report was adopted, and the Clerk was instructed to have specifications prepared and tenders in by next meeting. The meeting then terminated.
