Bating the recent race meeting there was considerable wagering over the Dunedin Cup. July is first favourite at 100 to 12 (off). Lady Emma was yesterday backed for fully £3OOO at 100 to 8, and 10 te 1 is now the best offer. Captain Webster was taken for a fair sum at 100 te 7, at which price Vanguard and Nonsense found friends. Several wagon were written on the Auckland and Dunedin Cups at 100 to 8, Black Bose and Lady Emma being the favourite pick. One backer took all .the money in the market about Administrator at 100 to 8. The handicap for the Dunedin Cup, which will bo declared on Saturday, is being awaited with interest by sporting folk. AVON ROWING CLUB. The Junior Double Sculls of this Club, which only adopted its now name on Monday evening, commenced last evening, the distance being one mile. The two neats that were rowed produced keen contests, and were witnessed by a goodly number of club men, Itesults: — FIRST HKAT. Venus—A. Aulsebrook, bow; P. D. Mansell, stroke; P. De Veaux, cox ... 1 Adonis—H. Hayden, bow; G Matey, stroke; C. Wells, cox 2 Matey slipped away at the start, and soon bad a length of water between the boats. After Cowlishaw’s had been rounded, the Adonis had but a length's load, and this was held until the straight for home was reached. Here the Venus began to come up, and the crow, by sheer hard work, placed her on levy! terms about seventy yards from the post. Continuing their determined rowing, they finished up winners by scarcely a boars len^h. SECOND HKAT. Adonis—J. Treleaven, bow; J. Honnesy, stroke; F. do Veaux, cox. 1 Venus—A. J. Smith, bow; W, J. Mason, stroke; C, Wells, cox. ... ... 2 Mason took the lead at the start, and held St up to the old bathing-place, where the Adonis began te draw up. Bounding Cowliahaw’a the boats wore neck and neck, and this position remained unchanged all the way up the straight. The comer tliat led into the straight for homo being in favour of the Adonis, her crew gained half a length, but Mason stuck to ms work very stubbornly, and it was not until about 100 yards trom the Willow# that Hennosy secured u decided lead. Mason easing down some twenty yards from the finish, the Adonis finished first by a length and a half. TOURISTS’ CYCLING CLUB. For some reason or other, only four members appeared at headquarters last Saturday, in order to run out to Kaiapoi, and this, m spite of the fact that at least 14 of the active members have never yet patronised the Club runs. It is te bo hoped that every member will attempt to turn out at least once during the ensuing month, in spite of their small numbers, however, the “gallant four” made the run—not only to Kaiapoi, but as far as Bangiora. The trip was somewhat marred by an accident which happened to two of the party. Whilst passing Kaiapoi at a rapid pact), a mmnlier on an ” Kxeolsiur attempted to pas* another on a “ 11 imber but, unfortunately, struck his handl 1 ir in passing, with, of course, the usual result The •' Excelsior ” came off best, with only the handle--bar bent literally to an angle of 45 degrees, hut ”HumberV’ backbone U’Cfunn at variance with the front whul and the right crank was snapped off sharp in the middle. Two or three miles bovoud this point the " Humber ” rider got a lift Into Banglora. Both tho riders speedily do veloped symptoms of gravel-rash about tho hands and arms, but, beyond a severe shaking, wore otherwise uninjured. At Bangiora two of tho members repaired te the Junction Hotel for tea (the others not intending to return te town), and after a rest mounted again at 8,45, and accompanied by two well-known local cyclists, started

on the return Journey. Near Flaxten the « local men turn ml back, and the Tourists t proceeded alone.
