Shearing is pretty general here, and there is no reason to growl about either the quantity or quality. On the last Court day a large number of persons were fined 5s per head and coats for allowing hones and cattle to wander about the township, and his Worship gave a final warning, that in future a much burger fine would be inflicted, hi, Cameron v. Bowse, claim i&0 for damage done to ewes and lambs near Methvcn, by dogs. Mr Cameron stated that he had lost 30 per cent ol lambs, and that Mr Bowse had been warned about his greyhounds running after sheep for over twelve months. A considerable amount of evidence was taken, Mr Wilding appearing for plaintiff and Mr Stringer for defendant. His Worship* reserved hi* decision till Friday next, at Ashburton. The Sports Committee have approved of the programmes for horse races and athletic events, to come off on Basing Pay.
