sittings to-day. Messrs Berry and Service were p-erent, with a number of other politicians. The meeting ■was addressed by Mr Service, who referred at length to the French convict question, a;id urged the necessity of constituting au Australian Executive to deal with the difficulty effectually. Mr Service ridiculed the idea that the Federal Council would supersede the legislatures of individual Colonies, [Received A iril 21, at 12.50 a.m.J Messrs C. S. Rosa and Co. report the sale of a cargo of kauri limber ex Devonport. Hewn logs realised an average price of 11s per 100 ft super ~ market weakening. A private telegram has been received here stating that a large speculative demand for the Continent is nowmanifest in the London wool market. The next series of auctions, which opens on April 29, will close on June 18, and the quantity of wool available is stated to amount to 870,000 bales,, including 280,000 bales of Cape wool. The Manager of the National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand, Limited, reports on the local grain market as follows :—Wheat, 3s lid to 4s, market flat; malting barley firm at 4s 3d to 4s 9d; New Zealand oats firm, and in active demand at 2s 8d to 2s lid for feeding, and 2s lid to 3s Id for malting sorts. New Zealand oats, under bond, in good demand at 2s 7d to 2s 9d.
