LEEBION. The monthly meeting i of this Committee wm held on Friday eyenmg last in the schoolroom, Leeston $ present—Mr Barnett (chairtain), Messrs Bamll/ Sandrey, Pearce, Scott, and BeWis. The Chairman reported that! the purchaser of the master’s old house had polled down * portion of . the gone fence in remoring the house without permission of the Committee, and had not replaced the same. Besolved —“ That j the Secretary report i the matter to the Board, and ask if it bad been sanctioned by them.’’ Correspondence Was read from tty. soarfl,dn; reply, stating that the,Board bare, no fund*, available for granting a retiring allowance' to Jlrs Smith, of the Side schools from the* satbei idrising paymebt to the Oommittoe’s crodit at the Bank of New-,,Zealand of £35 7s9d forsalaries. from the same.inreply, stating that if a member 6f the School' Committee leave, the school district in Which he Was elected a Committeeman Ihe ’ cannot longer - regain his seat on tho Committee. On this letter being read Mr T. S. Lewis, who now. resides, in So,tithbridge,.’retired from' the Committee, he no longer; being qualified to retain His 1 seat. From Mrs! Smith,, reporting that the average attendance atl the side school for the quarter ending September, was 40, out of ,64. on jthe roll, from.’ Mr ford,, stating .that the average attendance" 1 at the main school |fdr the quarter ending-September was 122,6ut of 190 ’oni the roll, .and that the attendance last week was. 132 J and.aleo, reporting on yarious .minor; m^tte^s.,in connection, with the school. on the table and deenidd highly satisfactory, the percentage passed at'tbe etamination,being 87 at the mam school, and. $2 At the side school. The head master reported that, with one exception, all those chudren who had notpassed their, examination had b?ed absent from school more than one-half the time the school bad been opened during the preceding year.
