POPE’S VILLA AT TWICKENHAM.
i There was a large attendance at the Auction Mart, in London, .where Messrs,Lpmley offered for sale Pope’s'Tilla at Twickenham. The poet purchased the property in 1715, and resided there- until his death in 1744, The property .offered included the whole of the grounds, five acres.in extent,,with and other "valhabl'e growing timber, jpgetheiW With the celebrated grotto which the poet formed; hnd which is' said to Remain; intacf'to the present day. 1 Theillustrated folio pamphlet levied by the auctioneers, containing, an elaborate-’description-.’of the mansion and grounds, with well-executed views of the villa qnd the grotto, was sold at ss, the possession of Which was a passport to, inspect the pro-; perty.
