For Southern Provinces and Australian Colonies, per s.s. Alhambra. Hour of closing in jfutnre notice.

Monday, the 24th inst., being the Queen’s Birthday, ail local mails for despatch on that day, will close at the Chief Post-office, Christchurch,- on Saturday, the 22nd inst., at 9 p.m. '. ii. The mails for Upper.Biccaiton, Prebbleton, Lincoln, Springston, Dwell, Doyleston, Leeaton,- and Sonthhridge, will close at'the Post-office, Christchurch daily, at 7.30 p.mi ' Much difficulty-is experienced in the delivery to their-right owners of'lstitersimperfectly addressed ; and theT’ost-officeJtaa-lrequentiy incurred, unjust censure either for. unintentionally delivering such letters-to wrong nersbns. or for declining the responsibility of dehyaring/them at all. The address of every letter ougbtto -be fall and distinct; but in the cages referred to. it is obvious that the correct delivery cannot be secured unless not only the name, Ac., , of the person for whom the letter is intCnded-be given, but also 1 the number or exact designation of the house. The practice of addressing letters to a town only, prevails to a large extent, and it has become necessary to call special attention-to the -matter, in-Order to prevent not only the delay -which such-letters are in all cases liable, to suffer, hut also Jkhe danger to which they are.Cxposed of being delivered to wrong persons and lost-altogether.
