LYTTELTON MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.

> Monoat, Oct. 28. Present-Messrs Ward (chairman), Wright, Willcoz, Grubb and Baleatiee. The minutes of former meeting were read and confirmed. The following correspondence was read : From Mr Inglis, manager of Matheson's Agency, requesting the Coinoil to order the removal of the engine house, and enclosing a letter from Mr Bowler, stating that he would get it removed. After some discussion it was agreed that the stone-breaker's shed be removed, and the engine house erected on the site. From.MrD'Oyly solicitor to the Council stating in reply to their question as to the power of the Council to sue persons who were not on the roll, but who occupied rateable property, that he was of opinion that the Council had not thepower to do so. From the Secretary for Public Works, informing the Council that the sum of £4OO, being a portion of the Government grant, was available on application. From the Council to the contractors for earthworks, calling their attention to the unfinished state of the contract. From the Chief Surveyor, shewing that Mr Holmes' property encroached 30 feet on the Governor's Bay road. A committee was appointed of the members present to report on the above encroachment. It was resolved, " That another letter be written to the Government, informing them that Messrs Merrin and Co. had not completed their contract as agreed upon." The Foreman of Works made his usual weekly report, which was read and adopted. On the motion of Mr Bale-itiee, the further consideration of the drainage question was deferred till the Council were in possession of the new Municipal Corporations Act. The tender of Mr W. Graham, for carting metal from the Sumner road quarry at Is per yard, was accepted. Accounts, amounting to £26 6s 6d, were ordered to be paid. The Council then adjourned.
