Horitiki.—The TPest Coast Times of Oct. 21, reports We are glad to be able to give a more satisfactory account of business in the import market for the past week, several of the vessels detained in the roadstead having succeeded in reaching the wharf, including the Christina John Bullock, Bungaree, Lizzie Coleson, the Isabella, lighter, with cargo from several steamers, and some smaller craft, making a very desirable addition to stocks, and although coming to hand late in the week, the resumption of activity has been very perceptible. Markets have not been closely tested at the auction marts, a considerable portion of goods landed going into store for trade purposes. We understand half the cargo of flour, ex Bungaree, was placed privately at £l7, the balance been held for £lB, fully maintaining the tone of the market in our last report; other staples are without material alteration. There has been more enquiry for first-class pale brandy, but no improvement in price has transpired. Cereals have not been offered freely: at auction, oats have realised 3s 68 to 3s 9d; bran, Is 7d to Is 8d; potatoes, £6. New landed parcels would probably realise a considerable improvement on these rates. The amount of import duties collected at the customs for the week, amounted to £lßßllßs 4d.

The following remarks on Australian and New Zealand Securities, are from Westgarth's Circular of Aug, 15 The principal Australian and New Zealand Government Stock hold a satisfactory position in the state of the market. In moat instances they have made a further advance in price sinco the: preceding circular of July 28. Thiß has been most conspicuous in some stocks that had been shortly before depressed by new issues being placed in considerable amounts upon the market, and Queensland bonds (both descriptions), have in particular recovered a further 2J- per cent. In other Australian bonds, the New South-Wales 6 per cents, 1888-95, and 1867-76 (by drawings) are each about 1 per cent, -higher. In Victoria 6 per cents,, the Eailway Xoan is J per cent., and the Water Supply 1 per cent higher, and the short term stocks are also in more demand at about £ per cent, adrance. Tasmania? may tie quoted about 1 per cent, higher. The New Zealand 8 per cents, March and September, are 1$ per cant,,' and the Juno and December 1 per cent, higher respec ively, The 6 per cents, are also 1 per cent,; higher, The chief Provincial bonds are also rather highor. There has not been muoh demand, but holders are indisposed to sell excepting at advancing prices. Wellington 8 per cents, and Otago 8 and 8 per cents, and Canterbury Kailway Loan may all be quoted rather higher.
