MELBOURNE.

The markets are without any important change. The feeling of buyers has been tested with regard to several articles, with a view to the outgoing mail. Sugars have been placed at previous rates. A speculative movement in tobacco has led tq the bulk of half-pounds being brought into the hands of one holder, and to a rise of 6d per pound in the quotation. The Cape raisins, ex Hero, have been offered at auction, but the lots were for the most part passed. Teas have not found ready buyers, the cargo of the Energie not having called forth any buyers at auction. Messrs. Fraser ana Cohen sold by auction, at No. 2 Shed, the damaged portion of the cargo of Lise, from Mauritius,—loo 6 bags sugar, at fair prices, the position of the market considered. The same firm offered, at their rooms, about 1,700 boxes Cape raisins, ex steamship Hero, the first arrival of the new fruit. The limit was 8d per lb; but eventually it was reduced to 7Jd, with a view to clear the shipment, but at this figure only a few hundred boxes were sold. They also offered the cargo of teas, ex Energie, but sold nothing under the hammer, but immediately afterwards in the rooms placed 1000 halfchests congou. The price did not transpire. The unusual continuance of wet cold weather, no doubt contributes to the great dulness which* prevails in the market for this staple. Out of the same vessel they also sold 150 cases of preserved ginger and chow chow, at 21s per case. In their upper rooms, the same firm held a sale of boots and shoes, and disposed of above 300 packages, at prices showing an advance of from ten to fifteen per cent, on previous sales. Messrs. Greig and Murray offered to-day, at their rooms, extensive parcels of general merchandise, and sold 10,600 bushels Dutch and Danish oats, all faults,at 3sldto3s 4d per bushel (bags, Is 3d each); barley, all faults, 4s per bushel; full-weight candles, all faults, BJd to 9|d per lb; light-weight do. do., 7£d to B|d per packet; Cape raisin, sweated, 7|d per lb; muscatel raisins, 6d per lb; flour sulphur, £15 per ton; rock salt, £2 15s per ton; hams, 10 Jd to lOfd per lb; bacon,'lo|d to 10|d per lb; Sugrue's old butter (in cloth), 6d per lb; Oregon salmon, sdper lb; oysters, 1-lb tins, 10s per dozen; clay pipes, 2s 9d to 3s 7d per gross; pearl barley, all faults, £17 5s to £17 15s per ton. They also sold at Teale's and at Cole's bonded stores, Kent hops, old, various growth, 3Jd to 4j[d per lb, in bond; do., 1862 (as per bulk), at 12|d per lb, in bond; do., 1857, all faults, at 4d to 6d per lb, in bond; and, at the Railway station, a parcel of Honan's butter, ex Lightning, at 9fd per lb." —Argus, Sept. 23.
