HEATHCOTE VALLEY SCHOOL.

An adjourned meeting of the inhabitants of the Heathcote valley was held on Tuesday, last to receive and consider the reply from the Lord Bishop of Christchurch to the deputation appointed to wait on him regarding the above school. The Rev. H. Fendall in the chair.

The chairman commenced the proceedings by stating that the bishop had given his assent to the plan of the proposed school building submitted to him, but that he had stated that owing to the very small allowance made by the Provincial Council for educational purposes, he would not be able to give any monetary assistance to the building fund, but that for the present the allowance now made to. the parish for schoolmaster's stipend would be continued.

It was resolved immediately to open a subscription list for the building, and that the landowners and all parties interested in the district be requested to cooperate with the undermentioned committee to raise the necessary funds:—-Rev. H. Fendall, Geo. Buckley, Esq., Messrs. Dobson, Richardson, Manson, Farland, Allot, and Banks. The sum of £30 was raised in the room before the meeting broke up.
