TIMARU.
To the Editor of the Ly Helton Times. Sib, —In your issue of the 12th inst., in the article headed "Town and Country News," there appears a singular mis-statement of facts. It there states that the Geelong came into Lyttelton only the other day, with cargo from Timaru which she had been unable to land. The master stated that he had landed" 50 tons of cargo at Oamaru, and taken in 45 bales of wool with perfect ease, while he was compelled to leave Timaru without discharging or taking in cargo at all. I beg to state|on the contrary, that the Geelong never called in to Timaru, and was therefore not compelled to leave without discharging, &c. Accidental errors in statements lead to ill feeling and unnecessary annoyance. The boat service at Timaru is doubtless susceptible of improvement, which will come in due time—" Rome waß not built in a day." I believe that measures are about to be taken to alter the existing state of things. Yours truly, BIG BUOY. Timaru, 19th March 1862.
