FRENCH MAGAZINE RESERVE. fTTHE Provincial Government are preJL pared to receive Tenders for the purppsee of "The French Magazine Reserve," situate in Lavand Street, Akaroa, and the build- , ings thereon. ...*..: The area of the Reserve is Oa. lr. 12p. or thereabouts, and the buildings are constructed of substantial materials. All tenders must bo in writing, addressed to the Provincial Secretary, and must state the amount the applicant is prepared to give for the property. If the sura offered in any tender be deemed sufficient by, the Government, the premises will be put up to auction, pursuant to the Ordinance. By his Honor's command, JOHN OLLIVIER, Provincial Secretary. Provincial Secretary's Office. Christchurch, Dec. 21 r 1857: '■ ' i IMMIGRATION . REGULATIONS. All persons"desirous of obtaining assisted passages to the Province of Canterbury in vessels under contract with the" Provincial Government, may receive assistance as follows: — 1. The Government will afforc? assistance equal in amount to the sum paid in cash by the passenger. If there shall be any balance, the Government will advance the sum, taking from the passenger promissory notes for the amount advanced, paj^able to the Treasurer of the Province. Such.notes will be made payable on demand, but, unless the passenger dispute the debt, or' shall' -attempt to leave the Province, payment , will only be required in sums of five pounds at a time, at periods of three month?, imtil the whole debt is discharged. The first payment to be made six months after landing. 2. Any persons resident in the Province desirous of assisting their friends in England, or elsewhere, to obtain assisted passages to the Colony may do so by drawing a Bill to the order of the Provincial Treasurer, accepted b}' a substantial householder, also resident in the Province, to be approved of by the Superintendent as suffi- j cient security to the same ; this Bill may then be transmitted to the person who is desirous of emigrating to the Colony, and, being by him presented to the. Emigration j Agent, will be received in lieu of cash, pay- ! ment, as hereinafter provided ; the Bill will be i-e-transmitted by the Agent to the j Colony, and must be paid immediately on i presentation. | 3. Assisted passages will be afforded only ! to bon&Jide labouring men, mechanics, arid female domestic servants; but persons of j all classes will be able to assist their friends.! to emigrate to the Colony by undertaking the payment of the whole of the passage money in the manner above provided, ' 4. No person will ' * ti jwed an)' assistance unless he shall hay oeen approved of! by the Emigration Agent in England. No \ single man above the age of 40 years, no ! person above the age of 50, unless a member j of a large family; and no person above 60 i years, under any circumstances, will be ! allowed assistance. I 5. When bills are tendered in payment i as cash in England, the amount of assistance I given by the Government will be one-half j of the amount of Bills. Persons, therefore wishing to give their friends in England; the utmost amount of. assistance must give bills for two-thirds of the whole amount of 'the passage money. ; 6. The Provincial Government are unable at present to state what the rate of passage money to the Colony will be fixed; but all bills will be prepared on the supposition that it will amount to £20, should it be less, a proportional part of the bills Will be remitted at the time of re-payment, i 7. Applications for assisted passages will be received at the Secretary's Office, in Christchurch, and at the Resident Magistrate's Office, in Lyttelton.
