The area of the Reserve is" Oa. lr. 12p. or | thereabouts, and the buildings are constructed of substantial materials. All tenders must be in writing, addressed to the Provincial Secretary, and must state' the amount the applicant is prepared to give for the property. . If : the sum offered in any tender be | deemed sufficient by the Government, the premises will be put up to auction, pursuant tc the Ordinance. : ; Two months notice of the time and place of sale will be given. All persons desirous of obtaining assisted passages to the Province of Canterbury in "vessels" under contract with the Provincial Government, may receive assistance as i follows: — 1. The Government will afford assistance equal in amount to the sum paid in cash by the passenger. If there shall be any balance, the Government will advance the .sum, taking from the passenger promissory note& for the* amount advanced, payable to the Treasurer of the Province. Such notes will.be made payable on demand, but, unless the r passenger dispute the debt, or shall attempt' to leave the Province, payment will only be required in'sums of five pounds at a time, at periods of three months, until the whole debt is discharged. The first payment to be made six months after landing. 2. Any persons resident in the Province desirous of assisting their friends in England, or elsewhere, to obtain assisted pas-, sages to the Colony may do so by drawing a ißill to the .order of the Provincial. Treasurer, accepted by a substantial householder,, also resident in the Province, to be approved of by the Superintendent as sum- j cient security to the same ; this Bill may ! then bs transmitted to the person who is ' desirous of emigrating to the Colony, and, ' being by him presented to the Emigration j Agent, will be received in lieu of cash pay- ' ment, as hereinafter provided ; the Bill will be re-transmitted- by the Agent to the j Colon'} 7, and must be paid immediately on j presentation. ' j | ; 3. Assisted passages will be afforded only ■■'< to bond jide labouring, men, mechanics, and female domestic servants; but persons of . all classes will be able to assist their friends j to emigrate to the Colony by undertaking the payment of the whole of the passage money in the manner above provided, 4. No person will '• mwed any assistance unless he shall hay oeen approved of j by the Emigration Agent in England. No | single man above the age of 40 years, no ! person above the age of 50, unless a member j of a large family; and no person above 60'! years, under any circumstances, will be j allowed assistance. . : i 5. When bills are tendered in payment! as cash in England, the'amount of assistance ! given by the Government will be one-half i of the amount of Bills. Persons therefore-;; wishing to give their friends in England tliel utmost amount of assistance must give bills for two-thirds of the whole amount of the passage money. ' i 6. The Provincial Government are unable at present to stale what the rate of passage money to the Colony will be fixed;, > but all bills will be prepared on the suppo- ; sition that it will amount to £20, should, it: be less, a proportional part of the bills will be.remitted at the time of re-payment. ' 7. Applications for assisted passages will be received at the Secretary's Office, \n Christchurch, and at the Resident Magistrate's Office, in Lyttelton. :
