WELLINGTON.

HoKTicm-TUKAL SociETX. —From an advertisement in to-day's ' Spectator,' it will be seen that an attempt is about to be made to establish a Horticultural Society in Wellington; the reminiscences of the exhibitions of the former Horticultural Society, when in its vigour (now some years since), are sufficiently fresh in the minds of many to desire a revival of them ; and the pursuit of horticulture lias so many followers in this place that we are persuaded this movement will meet with general encouragement and support. — Spectator, Sept. 20.

Public Meeting.—On. Tuesday last, a' public meeting for the purpose of forming a philharmonic society, was held in the Wellington Athenaeum. In the absence of 3lr. St. Hill, prevented by public business., and of Mr. Hort, prevented by indisposition, Mr. 11. Hart was called to the chair. After the objects of the meetinghad been briefly stated by the chairman, a sketch of the proposed plan of the society was given, which may be shortly stated as follows : —The society to consist of Ist. 3£emhers, who, for the payment of two guineas annually, are entitled to belong to the orchestra, to introduce two ladies to each concert, and to elect the committee and officers from among themselves. 2nd. Subscribers, to pay one guinea, and are entitled to belong to the orchestra, and to introduce one lady each concert. The Concerts, of which it is proposed to give about six in the year, are to be confined solely to Members and Subscribers.— lbid.
