LAKE COUNTY HOSPITAL.

At the monthly meeting of the Southland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board on Thursday it was reported that Nurse Riordan having completed her six months in this Hospital has rereturned to Invercargill Hospital, Nurse Hurley taking her place here, The Hospital was visited by Mr Hawke (chairman), Mr Mao Gibbon, and Mr Cockburn towards the end of the mouth, and the site of the proposed new ward inspected. The Falls (Kawar iu) were visited and the turbine inspected with a view to getting it in working order again. A thorough inspection is at present impossible owing to the height of the river and lak< In the course of conversation with Mr Mcßride, of the Falls Station, he i lid he proposed erecting/ a current ,vh( el on pontoons before next summer. So f the cost of repairing the turbine is likely to prove prohibitive it may be worth while arranging with Mr Mcßride to build a current wheel which would easily supply both the Hospital and the Falls homestead with water at very little expense —Re repairs to spouting aud bells, Mr Race' has done the work entrusted to him in a satisfactory manner. After inspecting the roofs ha reported that the shimneys both in the Hospital and residence were badly cracked from the level of roof to the top and wero in an unsafe condition. It was recommendsd that a competent bricklayer be instructed to do what repairs are nejessary before the condition of the jhimneya worse.—Owing to ihe continued dry weather practically ill the young trees planted in the j ipring -have died. Next month the j Superintendent proposed sowing a few j 'Xpevimental plots of lucerne iu the i garden, and if successful in getting it j o grow well be recommended that the j mcldock where the young trees were slanted be ploughed aud sown down in ucerue. If they had a good paddock )£ lucerne there was no reason why ;hey could not keep a couple of cows. —Report received.
