ASSESSMENT COURT.

Sitting- At Arrowtown. A Bitting of the Assessment Court to hear and determine objections to the revised valuation lists for Arrow, Cardrona, Matukituki, Greenstone, and Shotover Ridings of Lake County, was held in the Courthouse, Arrowtown, on Friday last. Mr H. A. Young, S.M., presided, and Messrs William Menzies (for the Valuation Department) and Donald Macleod (for the Lake County Council) acted as assessors. Mr T. L. Oswin, Officer-in-Cliarge of the Valuation Department, Invercargill, and Mr J. J. Mcßride. local valuer, were also present. Eleven objeotons were set down for hea -ing, and in the following cases the am nded valuations submitted by the Department had been accepted : William A. Scaife, Glendhu, Pembroke- Original valuation : Capital value, £8520; unimproved value, £6445 ; value of improvements, £2075. Amended valuation: £7980, £5035, and £2895 respectively. Peter Mackenzie, for Peter Mackenzie and Co., Glenorchy : Part Run 846, Skippers Creek, Glenorchy; area, 7290 acr>s. —Original valuation : Capital value, £497 ; unimproved value, £497. —Amended valuation : Capital value, £364 ; unimproved value, £364 Peter Mackenzie, for P. Mackenzie and Co., occupier of part Run 3460, Glenorchy and Skippers Creek ; area, 6850 acres.—Original valuation : Capital value, £856; unimproved value, £Bs6.—Amended to £685 and £685 respectively. The following objectors did not appear, and the valuations were sustained : David Matheson, Pembroke, occupier Pigeon Island, Lake Wanaka; area, 800 acres.—Valuation : Capital value, £125 ; uuimprovad value, £125. Lucy C. Sargood, Pembroke.— Sections in Block 14, Lower Wanaka District ; area, 1340 ac. 8r 16p.—Valuation : Capital value, £320; unimproved value, £l7O ; value of improvements, £l5O. Lake Wanaka Ferry Co., Pembroke. Jetty site, foreshore, Lake Wanaka. - Valuation amended from £BO, £lO, and £7O t0,£60, £lO, and £SO. Alfred Miller, Crown Terrace, owner and occupier of part sections 11, 12, 14, blook I, Kawarau ; area, 388 acres —Valuation : Capital value, £2105 ; unimproved value, £1265; valuation for improvements, £B4O. Grant and Sinclair, occupiers of area on Ml Judab, Glenorchy ; area, 20 acres—Capital vaiue, £100; unimproved value (including £95 interest in scheelite), £IOO. —Mt. Pisa Runs.— Joseph Cowie Nichols, for Mrs Helen H. Nichols, objected to the valuation of Mt. Pisa Runs. The Department's valuations were as follows : —Part runs 24, 240b, 245b, 340, and 340 a ; area, 28,643 acres ; capital value, £6440; unimproved value, £5780; value of improvements, £660. Part Runs 24 and 340 a ; area, 22,900 acres ; capital value, £6727; unimproved value, £6297 ; value of improvements, £430. The objector was represented by Mr A. M. Brodrick, solicitor, Cromwell. Evidence in support of the objection was given by Joseph Cowie Nichols, George S. Paterson (manager of Mt. Pisa Stetion), and John Faulks (Makarora), and for the Valuation Department by J. J. Mcßride, local valuer. The valuations were sustained. James Logan, Makarora, who was represented by Mr Brodrick, objected to the valuation of Run 96 and part Run 97; area, 97,500 acres. The original valuation was—Capital value, £5093; unimproved value, £4863; value of improvements, £7BO. These figures had been amended by the Depat ;ment as follow? : -Capital value, £4760; unimprovn.l value, £4060; value of improvements, £7OO. After hearing Hip evidence of the obj ictor and Mr Mcßride, the valuation, as amended, was sustained.
