SIR JOSEPH WARD'S RETURN

Tho Prime Minister, Sir Joseph Ward and party, with Sir J. G. Findlay, arrived in Wellington by the Ruapehu on Friday. The Ruapehu was met inside tho heads by tho Government steamer llinomoa, with members of the Upper and Lower Houses on Board, and vigorous welcomes in both English and Maori were shouted from her decks. An informal reception was held aboard tho Ruapehu, whore the Prime Minister delivered a vigorous speech upon a number of subjects of considerable interest.

Sir Joseph Ward took occasion to deny the rumors that ho had purchased an estate in Essex, .and intended to go home as High Commissioner. Neither was Sir Robert Stout or Sir John Findlay going to bo the High Commissioner. Sir John Findlay stated that he would be a candidate for a seat in the House of Representatives at tho coming election. If not elected, ho would cheerfully go back to the profession ho had left five years ago.
