GERMAN PUNITIVE EXPEDITION.
BRISBANE, August 8. Information has been received that the German warship Cormoran, some time ago despatched to St. Mathias Island, in the Bismarck Archipelago, to punish the natives for the massacre of Herr Mencke and othe» members of a German scientific party iApril last, had successfully carried out he mission. The crew had a pitched battle with the natives, eighty of whom mvkilled and seventeen captured. The la'.' were taken to German New Guinea.
