SUICIDE AT LUMSDEN.

H. Jennings, a guard in the railway service, station at Lumsden, died in his home on Friday night last, the supposed cause being poison. Dpceased ■was suspended on the 6th ihst. for an alleged breach of the regulations, and on the 9th an enquiry was held. He had since been despondent and remained indoors all the time and would neither eat nor sleep. His wife left home for the railway station to meet •the Waimea train in the afternoon, and, on returning with her mother at 5 p.m., deceased was vomiting. In the water jug on the table was a cup with a liquid, of a color that excited the suspicion of Mrs Jennings, who asked him if he had taken poison, and he admitted he had. A quantity of " Rough on Rats" was in the house. Curative treatment was applied, but he died at 8 p.m. The deceased was 39 years of age.
