ATTEMPT ON THE PRINCE'S LIFE.

A youth named Sipido fired a revolver twice at the Prince of Wales at the Brussels railway station, but withut injury. The Prince and Princess of Wales were journeying to Copenhagen for the King's birthday and to spend Easter. Sipido stood on the footboard with a revolver thrust through the open window of the saloon, intending to fire a third shot. The station master arrested Sipido, and the Prince and Princess proceeded on their journey. Sipido is a tinsmith. He is a Belgian, of Italian extraction, and is 15 years old. 'The Belgian public are sincerely indignant. Lo r d Stratcona, High Commissioner for Canada, and the Australian AgentsGeneral congratulated the Prince of Wales and the Queen on behalf of their colonies, and personally, on the Prince's escape. The Queen replied that she fully appreciated a message that speaks for a vast proportion of the Empire. The Duke of Orleans, signing himself " affectionate cousin," expressed his deepest congratulations to the Prince of Wales. One bullet passed within twelve inches of the Prince's head and after ricocheting on a handrest opposite, embedded itself in a sofa. His instigator's taunt at the railway station goaded Sipido to shoot. The police consider Sipido was a tool. The latter's parents, who are respectable people, have petitioned the Queen and Prince of Wales to forgive the misguided and repentant youth. The Governor has received the following cable from Mr Chamberlain : "Her Majesty commands me to convey her cordial thanks for the loyal message from yourself, your Ministers, and the people of N.Z. The Duke of York also conveys his thanks for kind congratulations on 'the escape of His Highness the Prince of Wales."
