ARROW DISTRICT HOSPITAL.

The annual meeting of Trustees of the abore institution was held on Saturday evening last. Present— Messrs Allan, Beviß, Bute], Jopp, M'Donnell, M'Kibbin, and M'Dowell. The chair having become vacant through the death of Mr R. H. Baird, Mr Butel moved, and Mr M'Donnell seconded—That Mr James Bevin be chairman. Mr Bevin objected. He thought as the position was an honorable one, some of the old members, who had been trustees.ever since the hospital had been built, in fact founders of the institution, should be selected for the position. The members were unanimous that Mr Bevin should be chairman, and at their request he consented. Mr Bevin, in thanking the Trustees for appointing him chairman, said he deeply regretted the sad and sudden circumstances which necessitated the appointment. The late Mr Baird had taken great interest in hospital affairs, and had filled the position of chairman with great ability. His capabilities as a thorough business man had been of invaluable assistance to the institution, and he (the speaker) was satisfied that he was only expressing the sentiments of not only the Trustees but the whole district in saying that Mi- Baird'e death was deeply mourned, and widespread sympathy prevailed for his family in their sad bereavement. He (Mr Bevin) would suggest that a letter of condolence be sent to Mrs Baird and family, sympathising with them in their bereavement. Feeling reference was made by the other members to the loss the institution had suffered through the death of Mr Baird, and it was resolved that a letter of condolence be sent to Mrs Baird and family. Mr Bevin was elected treasurer. Accounts to the amount of £45 13s 9d (general) and £IOO (fever ward) were passed for payment. The Visiting Committee reported everything satisfactory at the institution. Messrs Bevin and Jopp were appointed a visiting committee for the ensuing month. The treasurer's and surgeon's reports were adopted. It was resolved that application be made to the Southland H. and O.A. Board for the sum of £712 19s lOd to carry on the expenditure of the Hospital for the ensuing year.

A vote of thanks to the chair closed the meeting.
