The fol'owin" report was submitted at the annual general meeting of subscribers to the Arrowtown Arhenenm, . .. This being the first general meeting of subscribers hold in the new building, your committee take the opportunity of congratulating members on tho completion of the hail, reading-room and library, and on the formation of the neucleus of a new library, all the books in the old library, as you arc aware, having been lost in the late fire. Turning to tho balance-sheet wc find that the hall has cost to eract £321 18a ; furniture and soenery, £36 IBs 7d; books, £O6 4s 7d —in all, £423 13s 2d. In view cf the responsibility thrown on thorn, your committee have devoted a large amount of time in seeing that the terms of the contract ware carried out, devising the arrangements of the hall, and in ordering books, periodicals, etc., and they wish to take this opportunity of complimenting tho contractor, Mr Lawton, on the workmanlike and conscientious manner In which he has carried out his duties. The Atheneum as a Whole is free of debt, and a credit balance of £37 8« 8d in hand ; when ail liabilities are paid this will be reduced to £l9 6s 7d.
